In defence of Peter Siba and the Institute of Medical Research

In response to Nepotism and Mismanagement at PNG Institute of Medical Research

Whistle blower…. ARE YOU SERIOUS???

Firstly, it seems that this is a personal attack on Prof. Siba by some one (whom I believe was an ex-staff member). Probably did some thing stupid and got sacked and is now trying to spoil the name of Prof. Siba and his family.
So, let me explain some things to you.

His wife, is not the site administrator. She is actually a logistics officer at Karkar for the PiH project. His son who is in Karkar has been suspended because of the incident and police reports were made and actioned and he has been suspended without pay by the PNGIMR disciplinary committee and replaced the broken window. The incident with the knife had nothing to do with his suspension as it was an outside matter and had been dealt with.

The terminated three very experienced staff (as you say) with over 20 years of experience were suspended 2, 3 or 4 years ago for a SERIOUS alcohol related matter. They went to the IMR office in Madang under heavy influence of alcohol and physically and verbally assaulted a very senior long serving IMR staff member who has been in IMR for over 30 years.

His other son whom you say is in USA actually has a bachelors degree in education from UOG and also a Post Graduate diploma in Science (Molecular Biology) at UPNG (FYI). His father didn’t send him to USA on a scholarship. His son applied for and was successfully awarded a prestigious and globally competetive USA scholarship funded by NIH in USA to do a masters. This son is also a qualified and gifted scientist who has authored and co-authered international scientific papers.

The adopted son you are talking about is actually not adopted. Prof Siba assisted him in his education since primary school and as a way of honoring this, he uses Prof. Sibas sur name. he has done well and has a Degree (FYI) in agriculture science. He was interviewed and got employed and has proven to be an outstanding employee and is doing very well catching mosquitos and doing lab work.

I highly doubt that every one at IMR is related to Prof. Siba.
All employees who work at IMR had to go through a screening interview regardless of who they are.

I have been to the karkar PiH/LNG site but I couldn’t find a mansion. All I saw was a small green three bedroom high post house where his wife uses the small living room space as a temporary make shift office space for her logistics work. That house was built by a private contractor and his wifes reletives at karkar. The private contractor usually does small contracts around Madang and is some times contracted by IMR madang.

If you go to IMR today, you would still see all the senior staff no one was terminated. Infact, the senior staff whom you say are terminated are still there, happy as ever and proud of what Prof. Siba has done for the institute. They will be at the front car park at 10am drinking coffee and talking. I don’t know about the so called budget deficit but IMR probably has one of the best transparent administrations in the country who manage the IMR budget.
Personally, I think and know that you…WHISTLE BLOWER… are an ex-staff member of IMR who have been working for some time especially in Madang and recently, because of your unproductiveness to the institute got sacked and now trying to find some form of way to personally attack Prof. Siba and his family.

From what you are writing, it is clear that you don’t know what your talking about, it seems that you know his family but not that well. Your probably angry that you just lost your job and all messed up and personally attacking this great man and his family.
For those of us who know Prof. Siba both PROFESSIONALLY and personally, we will stand by him. Your just a little kid who doesn’t know anything and talking rubbish. And we see this as a PERSONAL ATTACK of Prof Siba. I think I know who you are, or where or from WHOM your getting your info. (FYI)

yeah… em wanpla ex-staff la bagarapim name blo Prof na em mekim stap….. sekim ol recently sacked staff na ba yupla find out…

  2. January 20, 2014 at 11:35 am

It seems that a large number of people are employed by IMR that are relatives of the Prof. Statistically this should not be high like this especially in such a small organisation. Talk to staff at IMR and get the real picture. Not all will stand up for the Prof.

Hi immuno, I have to thank you. You know why? Because you have just confirmed to the entire world that Peter Siba has his whole immediate and extended family employed by PNGIMR. Tell me, if they were recruited on merits, isn’t a bit strange that so many of them, in fact all of them, are in the same institution? Thank you, by rebutting all my statements, you have confirmed to the entire world that all these things actually happened and it is not just too good to be true as thought by our commentator Fury and others.

I have an advice for you since you might be the next director of PNGIMR. Don’t protect crooks! This is what this website is for. To expose those who practice corruption. This is not a personal attack on Peter Siba but on his corrupt methods of running down a world-class institution!

You think you are in defense of PNGIMR but in fact you are only in defense of Peter Siba and giving your own views. There are hundreds of hard working PNGIMR employees on my side fighting against his corrupt practices but they will not speak up in fear of losing their jobs. That is why I have to thank the founder of PNGexposed for giving us this platform to raise our voice.

My final advice for you. Stay out of this. You know why? Because we are in a different age. You try to protect someone or hide something, and it will pop up back again for the whole world to read on the internet. You might be the next director so don’t protect crooks, instead protect your character and honor your values.

Whistle Blower…You have never exposed a truth on this blog and will never find a truth in your mission to benefit your own desire by tarnishing the name of IMR and it’s Director. You have been under pressure lately from your bad habbits as an ex-employee of IMR, I suppose, and if you don’t release the presure on such blog you’l die either.
Mind you, IMR is very unique that whoever an ex-employer regret been away from IMR and you are one of them. You have no statistics on the good things IMR does for the country and you’l continue to produce unsupporting negativities which has no basis.Out of many, IMR in the Directorship of Prof Siba has established good programs to benefit PNGans, More than 100 staff/students from PNG had benefited through PNGIMR graduate programs and are now working elswhere,Prof Siba’s son whom you say was sent by his father to study in USA is not true.He applied for the prestigious award sponsored by NIH in USA like anyone else in the world and got selected on merit.Selection criteria and or selection are not done in PNG.
Whistle blower…get your facts right on all points of accusations or continue to find facts in your desire.

Degi….. if I have never exposed any truth, would I have such a strong support from everyone else? Haven’t you been reading other peoples’ comments? Do you have an answer to all the other allegations? Tell me, why is Peter Siba keeping a tight lip about all these? Don’t you get the message?

PNGIMR employs over 550 employees and only you plus your 5 other friends are trying to protect Peter Siba. The other 545 plus staff sitting quietly but enjoying the show. I’ll ask you again, don’t you get the message?

Degi, the fact is that IMR is a shadow of its former self. It is truly another rundown PNG institution that contributes very little to new medical discoveries relevant to PNG like it once did. Just look at the publication record coming out of IMR and it becomes very clear that the decline is real. THERE IS NO ARGUING THAT. IMR is in a very bad decline.

EVERY DEPARTMENTS HAVE THEIR SHARE OF PROBLEMS. Instead of getting on each other on social media, i suggest approriate steps should be taken to properly look into this matter and ascertain the truth or otherwise of this matter. Whistle blower, i congratulate you for your boldness in raising this matter. Who knows, there may be merits in this allegations. Likewise, you maybe WRONG on the other hand…..MI NO SAVE! Maybe those who are coming to Profs. aid/defence, it may seem that you MAYBE ONE OF HIS CRONIES…fearing to bite the hands that feeds,……and yet,….MI NO SAVE. Whistle blower may equally be wrong as his allegations may be unmerituous and has no substance as it maybe a pure personal attack on the intergrity of a Honest man,…..and yet……..HUSAIT SAVE!! Whistleblower, I Suggest you write to the Office of the Minister responsible, OC, and send copies of your requests for Investigations to the Office of the Public Services Commission and the Dept. of Personnell Management.

I would honestly despise anyone of you from putting or intending to put this type of allegations in the nature of Personnell attacks on Social Media. Lets be seen to be solving the problem, not igniting and inviting further repercussions. go to the right places and avenues to resolve matters of this nature.

    Tanikiu Bada Hearea.

Whistleblower… you have no idea what your talking about. I only recommend that you do a bit more investigating and recollect your facts from MORE RELIABLE sources then you can post such things. Other than that, your just an opportunist.

I have no grudges against anyone. I’m only doing my part to fight corruption. Can’t you see the support I’m gaining from everyone including employees of PNGIMR? They are all confirming how corrupt this guy is. Like his few other supporters, you must be blind or one of those benefiting from his corrupt practices to the point that you think he deserves to be praised. Shame on yourself.

Hi Whistleblower… I would also like to thank you because you just informed us that your still trying your very best to gather whatever information you can to use to tarnish Professor Siba’s reputation. How predictable.
I don’t know what you have against him and his family but it seems you are still looking for answers and reasons with some kind of self-satisfaction to achieve by doing this. Please, do all the investigations that you need to do and when you find nothing against him then you can go on your way and look for some other person to put in the spotlight.. Maybe your current employer. I have said what I needed to say because he is a great man who has done more for this country and is still doing great things for this country than you could ever do, so go conjure up any other accusations against him and I wish you the very best in whatever it is that you are trying to prove. FYI…. At IMR every thing is based on merit and commitment and performance. PNGIMR is not running down, its getting bigger and stronger every year. All the best in your fact finding mission.

Ahhhh, once again we find the alcohol is at the root of these problems yet none of us still want to confront that unpleasant fact and start doing something about it.

I’m glad all this has come out on the social media. Anyone who feels wrongly confused can always defend themselves on a site like this. By mounting a convincing defence, they will usually put the matter to rest once and for all. We need more whistleblowers than ever and yes, if some of them are blowing the wrong horns, we’ll learn the truth in the course of the debate.

Oi yupla, people making statements against Whistle Blower!!

The current director of IMR is VERY CORRUPT TO THE BONES!!

Have you ever questioned why so many young aspiring scientist have left IMR and are doing much better than when they were in there? There’s more filthy dirt in there then what you supporters of Paul Siba know. No ken pairap nating.

Agree with whistle blower, Imunno you just hanged Peter Siba by confirming that he IS practising nepotism. Lol..

After two years, we don’t know yet as to what happened to the 5 young research scientist who were thought to be carrying lots of cash too and yet we have not a single lead whatsoever as to what happened to the 8 people. Is there anything to do with the corruption at PNGIMR that they have yet to tell the grieving parents and relatives and the country as a whole what exactly happened to them? It looks like this institution stinks too.

      So true, Kane’s Kanarapa!

When a leader does not provide some sort of report back to the grieving parents of these missing scientists, it clearly shows how incompetent he is in managing his prized human resources.

Being the head of IMR, his priorities were supposed be on these scientists, as they are the ones carrying out research in the fields to build up that database which he uses to continuously seek and obtain funding from the Medical Research World.

His leadership and the whole IMR Organisation needs to be investigated sooner.

If you are 100% sure and confident about your allegations, there are routes and avenues that you must follow to prove yourself as stated by kadai.Do not just go on talking about something you personally believe and is killing you mentally and emotionally and then you do personal attacks, tarnishing the name of a person and organisation that has unbeatable reputation. If you have personal grudge against the man I looked upon to together with its administration, I 110% recommend you to get all things right before bluffing and barking.

The whistle blower has come out openly, now Peter Siba must do the right thing by allowing the health department to carry out the investigations. If he has something to hide then he and his cronies can continue to bluff and try to cover up by attacking whistle blower and anyone else who supports the whistle blower on this forum.

Wafankulo! I think you and Professor Peter Siba should be happy for this investigations because if everything is 110% good as you say! PS will be cleared and proofen to be the best administrator for the institution and why not he deserves to be there for as long as the Government so does feel. If PS is proofen to be as whistle blower says than he has to go. IMR is begger than PS and frends. I am an outsider in the private sector but have every right to comment.

Kanex, fantastic..!! Everyone has the liberty to raise opinion in a democratic country. I bet you and whistleblower put up an investigation to prove your stand rather than making noises on the web, its putting you emotional and mental stress…. it will be a shame and criminal offense of tarnishing a persons name without evidence..do the right thing and do not waste your time..shame on you…
