Exxon Mobil ex-pat in racist rant

February 12, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

Exxon-Mobil has moved swiftly to shut down an LNG workers blog but the evidence has been captured…

LNG Watch

When researching coverage of the Tumbi landlside, we came across the Call Me Big Papua blog, written by an American employee of Exxon or one of their contractors. The employees name is Justin Reed. The racist and derogatory description of Papua New Guinea contained in the blog are disgusting. Two examples are provided below:

And this is from an earlier posting:

Unfortunately Justin Reed is NOT an exception to the rule of assholes, rascists and idiots that Exxon-Mobile employ – and I had to laugh – even at that asshole when he claimed CCN was NOT just leaning left but communist. Ah Mr. Reed CCN is right leaning news rage – its just that your fascist eyes and racism make it look “progressive”.

Some over evolved, mutated , pinkish racist who thinks PNG is another african state is in the wrong place. Can the authorities get hold of this lunatic off the PNG surface or not? PNG is a christian country and reserved for genuine overseas who can respect my 800 language, traditions and customs on top of which is Christianity.

A person like this person from over a ripe sodom gomorrah state like his US is not welcomed here!!!

Get that asshole and other racists like him out of PNG immediately plis!!!!

I remember when all the Sepik people in Bululo had their houses burnt to the ground by the local Watut mob.
then, ther were the thnic attacks on Chinese.
      This was all racially inspired.
If what Warrior wants is done there may be a lot of PNGeans going too!
Seems that its ok to be racist toward your own kind.
Of course, there is a very strong racist overtone directed towards Australians, its really appalling.
If a white Australian made such a comment in public in Australia he would be reviled and pillard by all around him.

None of you will actually lift a finger beyond your ranting and raving to make sure this Justin Reed gets kicked out of the country. You’re all too lazy, content to just sit at your computer but not actually DO anything that would make a difference. Am I not speaking the truth?

At the risk of being ostracized by my PNG brothers, lets put a few cards on the table. Yes, what he said was offensive and insensitive. But lets not kid our selves that there is no racism towards white people in PNG. There is an undercurrent of resentment towards our past colonial overlords. We got our independence and the country has been on a down hill slide ever since. Have our schools improved? Do we have better medical facilities? We are a strugling, young and proud nation and comments like the ones above put us in the same place as muslim fundementalists. And remind me what is the tok pisin name for white pelas? Long Pig? Dosn’t our christian doctrine require only those who are without sin to cast the first stone. What about the way we treated that young couple in the WP last year. She was beaten and raped when the advances of a chief were rejected and when her partner tried to help her he was bashed with stones and shot with arrows. Some how I don’t think the rest of the world thinks we are without sin – so do we? I find it interesting that we don’t talk about those events, but expect foreign companies to behave so much higher that some of our own brothers do. This has left me with much to think about.

      February 13, 2012 at 6:01 pm

You comment is very interesting and has a lot of good points in yet. Yes I do agree that there is underlying resentment in PNG against white people, but I would say that it is only within the minority of the country. Most PNG people treat foreigners (white or green) with respect and sometimes deference.

In regards to the blog comment, I do believe there can be no excuse for this kind of attitude in our country. If a story like this was to be run in Australia or America with the culprit being a foreigner there would be a national outcry. For those reasons I can understand the heated and passionate remarks from some of the comments in this post.

What I believe the underlying message of your post is saying is that, unless we treat each other as Papua New Guineans as fellow decent human beings, we shouldn’t be surprised when others do not. This is a valid point but still provides no excuse from somebody who claims to be from a “civilized” country.

At the end of the day he is an ignorant, angry disillusioned man who will no doubt spend a long time searching for the peace he desires. Obviously with the rejection of his Visa God has told him to search elsewhere.

Bullshit! You wanem?! Pipia blo ol white mahn na u are standing for them?! It’s in the nature of a white, stinking caucasian to be prejudice to us, blacks. Papua New Guineans like you, are the ones who worship these white scoundrels, when they walk in to vision city you tend to put up your best smiles and look your best for them. pathetic!

Darkpenguin, many people in PNG will be willing to lift a finger to him. He is irritating. PNG is a soveriegn country and foreign people breathing in is country needs to respect how we are leaving.

It is sad to see and hear how some people think of MY beloved Nation (PNG) and it’s people. Let me remind the foreigners who are here for what ever reasons that this Nation (PNG) is not how it use to be back then. The people of this Nation are CIVILIZED, are FRIENDLY and PEACE LOVING PEOPLE. To that foreigner, who told you that PNG is like that? If your grandfather told you that than he is very very very wrong, as i told you earlier on that PNG is CIVILIZED. Please you need to go back and tell or up date him, tell your Nation and tell the Nations of the Earth that PAPUA NEW GUINEA is the blessed and a pleasant place to live in.

Excuse me, but I don’t find anything offensive about this blog, I am PNG through and through. Refering to PNG’ns as ‘brownies’, in PNG we have names for people from outside of our region ( coastal people refering to Highlanders, MoMaSe referring to the Papuans etc, etc) that’s worse than ‘brownie’ In everyday speech we refer to each other with more vulgarities than is needed, so that’s acceptable, by our standards, but when here some white boy is gunna call you a Brownie and you now want a war over that? Get real people! There are more pressing issues than this. Families raw from the tragic incidents (landslide and mv Rabaul Queen) and we’re gunna come here and up about a white boys remarks? Sekim yumi gut pastaim ah?

Well let me remind him that these brownies are blessed with rich minerals and resources which he and his employers are about to mine.Well its because of the brownies blessings that you are having a share of it too. So better mind your mouth and watch what you say about my beautiful blessed people…

This is a sick person who has no respect for humanity and derserves to be thrown down into history lane alongside the people like Adolf Hitler. He should have been born during those ages where racism and colonialism engulfed the entire world. Even though he comes from a developed world, he still has a backward mind. All the best in his next employment assignment where ever he’s sent. I am sure he wont last in places such as the Middle East and Africa…..Advance PNG Advance.

I’m telling you all, this arrogant prick is not the first or last of them (racists’) who are actively working and exploiting our people in PNG.

There’s a bloke who is a captain for airlines png who has been cheating pilots who aren’t just png born but of any darker skin colour from progressing in the company. I know some of these dark skinned boys who have left because of him and many who have stayed Hoping that one day will get to progress. It’s hard to see! I am not from png but another pacific nation. Is there anything we can do to stop these white men in high positions who see little of our people and keep them at the bottom? They must be stopped!

….hold up a little folks, I am a white guy (NZ) whom works throughout PNG and have done so for nearly 33 years. I have nothing but admiration and respect for the majority of my PNG wontoks. I have always been treated with great kindness and friendship where ever I have traveled working upon Telco Projects. Like many other white men and women I genuinely am here to help as a friend, not as a colonial interloper from the past. Please don’t judge us all by the pity full ignorance of one man….
